As Black Friday and Cyber Monday are right around the corner, we need to get our money counted up so we can buy the toys on these heavily discounted days. We called First Merchants Bank, as another group in the room brought their money their to be counted. We went their on our long day and got everything counted up, all change and bills. The change came out to $144.47. As we were having our stuff being counted, the banker asked about our donation, and ended up giving us a couple dollars! This change got converted into bills, and once all the bills were counted, we had $1094.62! We then went straight the Meijer to pick up gift cards so we can order the toys on Amazon. I pitched in a couple dollars and we bought $1100 worth of gift cards at Meijer. It was a heft process, we had the manager called over multiple times, and we were paying with cash, and it needed to be counted time and time again. (We were seconds from being late to class) but we ended up getting back in enough time.
(One week later) It is Black Friday and I am looking over our items on the wishlist to see what the prices are looking like. I was shocked to see that almost every item on the list was discounted. Most items were discounted at about $5-$10, and some where even $25 off!!! With the money we had, we were able to buy 42 items! We bought a variety of legos, plush toys, and board games! We should be receiving these items within the next couple weeks. Speaking of that, we received some items off of our Amazon wishlist here recently. We even received a Minecraft Nintendo Switch game, a $50 value!

At this time, Colin and I aren't doing anything crazy. We have been "chilling" as we collect the donations from all of our businesses. We currently have collected $822.31. We came up with the great idea to order our donations on Black Friday & Cyber Monday! We think this would be great so we can get the best bang out of our buck for Peyton Manning Children's Hospital. As we wait for this date to roll around, we created a Google Sheets Doc, and are making lists of items we will buy, where to buy them, and placing around what it would cost. We would like to have collected up to $1000 by the time Black Friday rolls around! Colin's brother, Trevor Darley, recently went to Peyton Hospital for a check up visit. Trevor directly heard that they wanted Nintendo Switch games. This was great, because it helped us focus the funds we are receiving. We have also been focusing our donations towards more expensive items, since the items that have been bought and donated are cheaper.
We have accomplished a lot since our last blog post! Colin and I created buckets to gather donations. We created them by getting old Riley buckets and mocking Peyton Manning logos that we taped over the Riley logo. We also made posters to hang up in businesses. Colin and I both made a few posters and this was the one we ended up going with. We made a list of nearby businesses that we could possibly set up these buckets and signs at. I reached out to all these businesses to see who would allow us to set up a donation bucket and sign. Unfortunately, some businesses, like CVS, wouldn't work because they were a larger corporation and we couldn't speak with a person. The businesses that allowed us to set up include: New Palestine Vet, Celebrations, New Palestine Nutrition, Brew 52, Raggedy Dog Grooming, & GetGo. These businesses were very happy to help out! *1 Week Later* Colin and I both go around to all of these businesses to collect donations we may have! We were both super blown away at how many donations we had gathered from GetGo!! The bills had stacked up so much, a very kind employee had taken them out and put them in a money clip, and even then when we got there, it was full with bills! We gathered a little over $75 from GetGo! We then went around to other businesses which also had a very generous amount of donations. After we finished we came back to school and counted it up; we gathered a total of $132.39!! As soon as we came back the next day, we got to work on a DONATION WAR with Greenfield. We got in contact with Abigail Mulligan & Hayley Anderson and began to set things up. We both got permission from the school to host a DONATION WAR at the Greenfield VS. New Pal football game on September 24th. We made many posters, and lines for the announcer to state. Greenfield did a great job setting up a place to be by the concessions, tables, and donation buckets. We also got help from their service learning teacher, Mrs. Flask. We were in a great location for the DONATION WAR. We were setup right next to the concession stand, which was great for people do donate their change after buying concessions! We ended up gathering $345.09 for Peyton Manning Hospital! We were in a rush at the game, so we were not able to total up which school won the war, but from looking at the difference, it looks like Greenfield definitely won. My name is JC Wilson and I chose to start a donation for kids at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital along with Colin Darley. At the beginning of the year, we looked at projects that had been done in previous years, and we were really inspired by the "Lego's for Riley" that was done by Jesi Hall, Addie Halter, and Whitney Miller. This project was a donation where they gathered legos and gave them to kids at Riley Children's Hospital. This inspired us since Colin's older brother, Trevor Darley, has recently had teratoma cancer for over a year and had stayed in Peyton Manning Children's Hospital for over 3 months for surgery's, chemotherapy, and check-ups. Trevor told us that while he was staying at the hospital, he was very bored, unhappy, and overall just miserable. He claimed how it was because the hospital did not have a lot of essential items, such as batteries to run game controllers, as well as toys. This is important to us because Trevor is very close to Colin as well as the school. We hope to provide many toys and essential items to Peyton Manning Children's Hospital. We found a link on Peyton Manning Children's Hospital website for an amazon wishlist that included a handful of these items, and more! They Peyton donation is where we give patients toys, books, and other items with the purpose of having a way to pass time while going through treatment. While undergoing treatment, patients can be bored, lonely, and even miserable. Our goal is to eliminate these feelings by proving items from the Peyton Manning Children's Hospital Wishlist to preoccupy these patients and make treatment more enjoyable. We need to gather these items through donations. We will do this by advertising on facebook groups; I have a very big presence on new pal pages and through my business + business page. We will also advertise on NP120. Lastly, we will advertise at local businesses (we already have 5 set up). We still are planning out how long this donation will be time wise, but it will probably take up the rest of the quarter and go a couple weeks into the next. First we will set up donation buckets, posters, and advertisements. We will then go out and post these donation buckets at the locations we have set up. We will then begin to advertise on NP120 and football games. We are advertising to receive money (to buy donations) and the donations themselves. Pitch day went very well for us! We got great feedback from both students & school administrators on how we could improve our project. Mr. Cooper suggested we host a competition at the Greenfield VS. New Pal football game like they had done in a previous year. After talking to Mr. Large we found students at Greenfield who were doing something similar & we emailed back and forth with them to try to set this up.
