Unfortunately things did not work out with the car wash. We thought we would have well enough time, but come to find out an event this big requires months and months and months to plan. Due to this we had to abandon the idea because we were not prepared in any way. We did not have reliable volunteers, donations, or funds to buy materials for the car wash.
After this, Mr. Large spoke to us and told us we hand grant money that needed to be used by the end of this school year or we would lose it. We decided to make art bags for kids at Riley Children's Hospital. Colin Darley found out through his brother that the kids really needed new art supplies, so we spent all $700 of the grant money on crayons, colored pencils, art books big and small, and play-doh. We spent a whole long period bagging them together in draw string bags. Today we drove down to Riley Children's Hospital and dropped off the art bags.

Braeden Baker has joined Colin Darley and I to help on the Andrew Eyerman Project.
We have started preparing for the Clean Cars for Cancer event. We figured since it's going to require a lot to set up, we should start now and get ahead of things instead of possibly falling behind. We have received confirmation from the Eyerman's that it's okay to continue with this event. We have also sent an email to Mrs. Kehrt, the Sugar Creek Elementary Principal, for approval on this event as well. We plan on using the grounds at Sugar Creek Elementary for the car wash. We have created an amazon wishlist for the items we need at this event: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3TWHKIC96KETC?ref_=wl_share This includes all towels, brushes, soaps, and other materials we might need. We are currently writing up a Facebook Post to post in the New Pal Community Facebook Page to try to get donations for this event. We plan for this event to take place May 1st, but we will need approval before that date is finalized. We just hosted the Hoops For Hope event @ the basketball game February 11th! It turned out to be a great success! We raised $4000+ at this event, and all donation's went towards the Eyerman Family to help them with their expenses. Let me tell you how we did it. First, we graciously got help from almost the entire service learning class. We all butted heads and came up with idea's to make this event work as it did. We first created categorial baskets, and made a huge list of businesses who could potentially be willing to donate an item / gift card to put into that basket. This is a photo of the idea board where we were brainstorming how we would run things.
Braeden Baker created the poster for us. The poster shows all of the baskets we had, as well as what the value of each basket was. Emma Mann created a signature board and had many, many people sign the board for Andrew Eyerman. Our project this second semester of school Colin Darley and I decided to still do something cancer related, like we had last semester. We through out a couple ideas, and one of them that really stuck was helping a family in the community who has a family member fighting cancer. As soon as we mentioned the project to Mr. Large, he informed us how the Eyerman Family had a son, Andrew Eyerman, who was battling Leukemia. We were later informed from Stephanie Benson, on how quiet and reserved the family was. They did not want any attention, or any financial help. Unfortunately, here recently, they started to get into some financial trouble and began a handful of fundraisers and events to raise money. We plan on helping the family financially, as well as many other ways in order to bring them comfort in this hard time.
A big idea we got was a Sugar Creek Car Wash. I could sponsor the event through my business (since I own all the supplies needed) and we could wash cars for donations. All donations would go directly to the eyerman family to help them with their financial needs. - HOOPS FOR HOPE Along with the majority of the service learning class, we are all butting heads to have a cancer awareness event called HOOPS FOR HOPE. We are hosting this event on the February 11th basketball game. We will have multiple baskets to raffle off including: Family Basket, Sports Gear Basket, Entertainment Basket, Fast Food Basket, Spa Basket, and possible more coming soon. We have reached out to over 20 businesses now asking for donations, and we have already received over $650 in donations! More Details Coming Soon! |
